Hand Finishing
All of our finishes, whether they be varnished or painted, are hand brushed and rubbed. They are not sprayed. Paint finishes are brushed on to maple, mahogany or hand-planed pine, depending on the period style and desired look of the project. Varnished finishes are brushed on to cherry, mahogany, Douglas fir, quarter-sawn and rift-cut white oak, quarter-sawn maple, or quarter-sawn hand-planed New England white pine.
Our antique wood finish is a built-up layered process made up of stains, dyes, shellacs, glazes, and varnishes, depending on the wood species and color. This results in the character, complexity, and deep patina typical of our work. All finishes are brush applied and hand wiped.
