Period Inspired Cabinetry
The Kennebec Company has been designing and building period-inspired custom cabinetry for classical homes for three decades. The stylistic journey from the Seventeenth to the Twentieth Century is defined more by broad curves than by sharp corners.
Cabinetry inspired by the Georgian and Federal periods, and also by the Shaker movement, or some combination of these, are suited for homes built in the Eighteenth and early Nineteenth Centuries. Houses built in the latter part of the Nineteenth Century might be better fitted out with cabinetry inspired by the Greek Revival, Victorian, and Arts and Crafts era, or, more often than not, by elements taken from more than one style.
Our Turn of the Century cabinetry was inspired by the wide variety of influences found in the early Twentieth Century.
Often for newer homes, we will draw from a wider variety of period details to create the look that is right for the home and pleasing to the client’s sense of style. For the kitchen we did for the 1950’s modern International Style home for This Old House, we designed a variation of a simple shaker style, but with contempory proportions, reveals, and moldings, in a light natural cherry finish, to blend with the architectural elements and décor of the home.
